Mary Margaret LaCroix was born Mary Margaret Stine to Harry and Mabel Stine in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 28, 1923. Mary graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Bethlehem as a Registered Nurse. She joined the Army Nurse Corps, had basic training at Ft. Meade, Maryland and then was stationed at Camp Lee, Virginia, where she met the man she would eventually marry, Lt. Harold J. LaCroix Jr. From there, she was sent to the South Pacific and served with the 318th General Hospital as an operating room nurse at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii,...

Mary Margaret LaCroix was born Mary Margaret Stine to Harry and Mabel Stine in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 28, 1923. Mary graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Bethlehem as a Registered Nurse. She joined the Army Nurse Corps, had basic training at Ft. Meade, Maryland and then was stationed at Camp Lee, Virginia, where she met the man she would eventually marry, Lt. Harold J. LaCroix Jr. From there, she was sent to the South Pacific and served with the 318th General Hospital as an operating room nurse at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Okinawa and Osaka, Japan. She was among the first American nurses to arrive in Osaka after the Japanese surrender. On her separation from the Army Nurse Corps, 1st Lt. Mary M. Stine married 1st Lt. Harold J. LaCroix Jr on March 24th, 1945 at Camp Lee, Virginia. She attended post graduate work at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas and supervised a medical clinic of six doctors for eight years in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After residing in Lafayette and Alexandria, the LaCroix family moved to Dallas, Texas where Mary was employed by Presbyterian Hospital as a critical care nurse for fifteen years. She remained a member of the Presbyterian Retired Nurses. Mary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dallas, and also the Catholic Daughters of America.

Mary is survived by daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Clement Zang of Dallas, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Mark Cheatham of Longview, Texas; daughter Mary Jo Burgess of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brothers Dr. Robert Stine of Peoria, Illinois, Dr. Harry R. Stine of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania; and sister Kathleen Cope of Spokane, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold LaCroix Jr., her sister Geraldine Halliday, her brothers Royce and Dale Stine, and her grandson, Gregory Zang.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5 from 6-8 with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at St Patrick Catholic Church, 9635 Ferndale Rd. Dallas, Texas 75238. Interment at the DFW National Cemetery will follow the service at 12:30 p.m.
